Play Date

The chicest and most comfortable way to retrieve your childhood? A play suit. Since the summer months are almost upon us I felt the need to mention a play suit, and this one by Alexander Wang hits the mark perfectly. Play suits or rompers as we named them in our earlier years, are all about the right cut for your body, not many a girl can rock the skin tight look which is why todays post is pretty much universal for everyone. In slinky silk and the silver toned perfect shade of grey, this little beauty nips the body perfectly The 70's perfect sleeves would make Bianaca Jagger proud and a sigh of relief for everybody, behold the elasticated waist. Add sunnies and ridiculously sized tote and your ready to romp.

Where The Wild Things Are

There are few designers whose clothing can bounce off the pages of a magazine or grab your attention from the other side of the room, like the late and great Alexander McQueen’s creations did. Before his death McQueen created one of the most spectacular and inspiring collections of his career for spring summer 2010.

The ultimate capture of his imagination exploded on the runway in an army of tribal fusion. A rainbow of colours swept the room, prints adorned on every piece, with models stomping the runway as if the were heading to war. This leads me to today’s piece, the olindias print cape by Alexander McQueen. From the outside a simple, chic black silhouette, perfect for every day, but lift up the arms and you are exposed to the roaring, royal blue graphic print of the cape.
Turning an everyday item into something unique was something McQueen did best and this is a prime example of his extraordinary work.

Throw on your cape and release the inner wild child. Long Live McQueen.

Your Birthday Suit

Spring is all about the word light, better lit days, lighter evenings, light jackets and probably most important lighter colours. Pastels were a huge hit on the spring summer runways but most noticeably in the form of nudes.
Christopher Kane , Calvin Klein and Burberry Prosum where a handful of the designers that showed shades fit for a candy shop, think blush roses, soft corals, frosty beiges, milky peaches and soft iridescent pinks. Bearing the trend in mind here is my take on the new pastels.

Zip Slip Dress by Topshop – The nude lingerie dress, if it looks like your wearing your underwear, on the outside your probably onto the right thing. This one from Topshop hit the mark perfectly, nude, lace, and silk, channelling your inner Gaultier.

Canvas Belt by Stella McCartney – You’ll rarely find a look this season that isn’t finished off with a belt. Tan accessories are oh so summer time and great for adding a harder edge to a soft look.

Skull Pendent Chain by Alexander McQueen – Gold is usually the go to for spring jewellery and while its great, I decided to add the eternal symbolic pendent by McQueen as a quirky alternative.

Battle Beginnings

Need a better reason to go into battle? I should think not, fight for your right to own a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood’s leather and snakeskin shoe boots. With shoes becoming more sartorial every season these kicks definitely fit the mark, not to mention the oh so on trend tribal inspired snakeskin detail. With a 5.5 inch platform heel, wall flowers need not apply.

Ultilise This

Utility, modern military, soldier chic, call it what you want to call it, either way it’s a big trend for spring 2010. Taking note from the military trends of winter (think Balmain and Givenchy), for this season it’s a bit more subtle and definitely more relaxed. Less embellishment and less black, with more earthy tones, like khaki, gentle greys and taupe- esque browns. Designers such as Celine and Sportsmax brought the look to life for the season. Here is my take on Utility for spring/summer 2010.

Quilt Detailed Parka by A.P.C – The Parka, the most staple item to base your look around when channelling utility. This one by A.P.C fits the bill perfectly, its olive green colour is right on trend and the adjustable sleeves mean a ton of different looks.

White Noise

There is only one way to describe Fendi and that is fabulous. Fendi represents everything glamorous in the fashion world, everything luxe, everything polished, prim and perfect. When I think of Fendi, I think of strong, classic, powerful women. Women who embody glamour as a natural element in their lives.

Women like Carine Roitfeld and Diane Von Furstenberg, who carry themselves so strongly and set a standard for women all over the world. Tell Me About it Stud

Florals, pastels and pretty little dresses, cant spring sometimes be a little dull? Looking for something to take the edge off? Look no further then Lanvin’s denim studded jacket. What better way to update your spring wardrobe then by adding a little tough love. Right on trend for spring/summer 2010 with the 80’s Madonna – esque denim, this jacket will look great thrown over girly prints, greats skirts and simple white tees. Or great with leggings and sky scraper heels by night.

So don’t go chasing summer love this year, chase Lanvin for some serious tough or rather studded love.

Off Duty

I am somebody who is not a great lover of colour, but now and again I tend to fall in love with fuchsia-tastic pieces like this Isabel Marant silk dress. This dress has a great urban ,off duty gypsy feel that will work on any shape and is perfect for spring. Work it with boots, flats and espadrilles during stylish summer afternoons. Not only is the colour the perfect electric pink, it has adorable felt detailing, paving the way for great summer accessories.

Seen here on the runway, with the infamous Isabel Marant fringed boots and belt the dress is a great season staple for Marant worshippers and colour fanatics alike. I love the early 70’s vibe I get off the dress, very Marianne Faithfull. Gotta have Faith.

Into The Wild

Feathers? Check. Sequins? Check. Metallic’s? Check. Festival season is almost upon us, so whether your heading to Glastonbury or Coachella this year, set your eyes boys and girls on this major new waistcoat brought to us by the one and only Matthew Williamson.

Matthew season after season always seems to give you that tight knotted fashion flip in your stomach when you set your eyes on his festival perfect, bohemian creations. When I look at the waistcoat it makes me want to reach for my ray bans and turn up the Fleetwood because you realise spring is almost here.
Throw the waistcoat over a plain tank, stack your arms with cuffs and bracelets, add fedora, slouchy knee boots and cute denim cut offs and your an instant festival goddess. However by all means feel free to wear over a LBD as a perfect summer update to a classic, as this little beauty should not be neglected through the seasons.

Just one last thing to add though I can’t help but wonder that there might still be something missing with the waistcoat, Mick Jagger?
